Residential Dwelling, Sutton

Large new build dwelling with swimming pool

We successfully tendered for this project.

The first task was to demolish the existing house which only took a few days!  The ground condition required the use of piled foundation and ring beam.  Our ground working team set out the levels and excavated for the cellar.  We used Cube6 thermal flooring and flowing concrete to create the ground floor.  The highly experienced bricklaying team ensured the quality of the brickwork was second to none.  The plumbing and heating was very challenging with traditional boilers, air source heat pumps, mechanical heat ventilation systems and solar panels all in the design.

We worked closely with the main architect and the clients chosen interior designer to deliver exactly what was required.  We were delighted to receive a LABC building excellence award for this project.

Few words from the project architect:

“We worked with MAN Construction through all three Covid lockdowns in challenging conditions on a large residential contract with detailed landscaping and an indoor pool. Their can-do attitude, fine attention to detail and unfailing good humour through the hugely extended contract resulted in a building of high quality, easily achieving its A energy rating and fully meeting the very specific needs of the commissioning client.

“The building includes a high level of complex ‘eco’ heating, cooling, ventilation and rainwater harvesting systems, which, although sometimes new to MAN, were installed carefully and successfully. We look forward to working with MAN Construction again.”

Few words from the client:

We knew that MAN would be the right people to build our new house the moment that we met Mark Hough. He had been poring over nearly 100 pages of architect’s drawings and already knew them like the back of his hand, and was full of questions about them.  Such conscientiousness and attention to detail was the hallmark of MAN’s whole team throughout our project, led by Mark Hough’s approachability, politeness, patience and drive to “do the right thing”.  We were never made to feel unreasonable in our demands.  Mark was very accommodating of our rather unique needs as a family and worked around us and was extremely helpful – particularly through the very difficult period of lockdown during the pandemic.

We liked the fact that MAN mostly employ local trades and all those who work for MAN are polite and helpful, good natured and amiable.  MAN employ sound local knowledge and skills.  Special mention for Simon Adams who has always been the helpful voice at the end of the telephone at MAN’s office.

MAN proved themselves able to work with our Architect, our Interior Designer and our Landscape Architects without falling out with any of them; a hallmark of the whole project has been the good-natured atmosphere on site.  Where there have been problems, not necessarily of MAN’s making, they have shown perseverance to work through them to ensure that the end product for us, the clients, has been good.    The quality of build and finish has been deeply impressive.
